What is Churn rate?

The percentage of subscribers who cancel in a given period — the most important metric for any subscription business.

Churn rate is the percentage of subscribers who cancel within a given month or year. A 5% monthly churn rate means a typical subscriber stays 20 months. Healthy paid-community churn is 3-7% monthly; healthy SaaS churn is 1-3% monthly. The two churn-killers in 2026: poor onboarding (cancellation by month 2 because they never used it) and stale content (cancellation by month 6 because nothing new is shipping). Kavieo customers report 30-50% lower community churn vs Discord-based equivalents because of the auto-join + integrated email automation.
